Machine learning in the film industry

How can modern deep learning networks be used to expand existing markets and reinvigorate traditional ones? We at Rambler Group, already a well-established player in online advertisement, currently focus on “blue ocean” in this industry – cinema networks.
As of now the cinema advertising market is undervalued. Problems exist with transparency, delivery, targeting and performance evaluation.
How many people saw my ad? What kind of people they are, what is their gender, age and interests? How to track the effectiveness of advertising? These classic questions of advertisers are hard to answer as ticket sales are not informative enough – but now there is another way, opened by progress in computer vision technologies.

In this talk, we will discuss the pitfalls, hardships and our from-the-trenches experience of moving from research to large-scale production application of current state-of-the-art computer vision technologies.
